A Message From Our CEO, Dave Shore
Help us support those living with ALS through Feast for Families

It’s that time of year for you to contribute to a unique program at our organization that is now going into its 9th year. Feast for Families was inspired by the generosity and thoughtfulness of a few volunteers who spearheaded this program in 2016. We quickly expanded the program to the entire state of North Carolina and have consistently provided Thanksgiving meals to people living with ALS and their families. This year, we are excited to continue this program, and our goal is to be able to provide meals for well over 100 families and your donation of $100.00 will provide a complete holiday meal for a family living with ALS. I invite you to donate here

A Response to Western North Carolina

As we continue to recognize and respond to the impact of Hurricane Helene on the communities of Western North Carolina, we at ALS United North Carolina want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected. We are also deeply grateful to the many individuals and organizations that have reached out to offer their support during this challenging time. While the aftermath of the hurricane has been difficult, it has also highlighted our community’s remarkable kindness and resilience. We understand that crises like this can exacerbate the challenges faced by those living with ALS, and our commitment to supporting you remains unwavering. In the wake of the hurricane, our Care Services Team diligently reached out to our over 100 families in the most impacted areas, ensuring their safety and well-being. We are pleased to report that we connected with nearly all of them, serving as a centralized hub to link individuals in need with the resources they require. A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff at Pardee Neurology Associates & the Pardee Foundation, Stall’s Medical & Adaptive Vans, and Med Emporium for their willingness to engage in meaningful conversations, problem-solving, and resource coordination beyond standard business hours. Your collaboration has been invaluable.

Walk Season is Not Over Yet!
You can still donate to any Fall Walk until January 31st

We have walked in Wilmington and Greensboro, and this Saturday, we will walk in Charlotte. Our walks are a day of community and hope. They show individuals and families affected by ALS that they are not alone. Walk ALS also serves as our biggest fundraising platform of the year! Fundraising through Walks helps make sure that people living with ALS receive the highest quality of care, it ensures that we are able to offer programs to the entire state of North Carolina, and drives us further toward a cure. Help us reach our goal and donate to one of our walks! Donations will be accepted until January 31st.

June Thompson Volunteer Impact Award
Living a Life of Impact

In 1988, June Thompson founded what is known today as ALS United North Carolina after losing her beloved husband Larry to ALS. June was deeply committed to making life better for people living with ALS and their families. For years, she would travel the state delivering equipment to those in need, hosting support groups, and participating in our annual National ALS Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. Without June, ALS United North Carolina, and everything that this organization has accomplished over the last 35 years, would not have been possible. So many people have benefited from her legacy of service to others.

We had the privilege of presenting our annual June Thompson Volunteer Impact Award to a group of deserving recipients at our Navigating ALS Symposium. These individuals speak into the legacy of June Thompson by serving both on our Board of Directors and the WALK ALS Greensboro Committee and through their diligent fundraising efforts by putting on ALSapalooza every year in Greensboro. They work tirelessly to support our mission, our advocacy efforts, and especially our patients and their families.  Please join us in congratulating Tony Luper, Beth Christina, and Kathy Foster, the 2024 June Thompson Volunteer Impact Award recipients.
